Gospel Tabernacle Baptist Church

The year 2010 marks the 37th preaching (ministerial) anniversary of this Baltimore, Maryland native, Bishop Reginald Lamont Kennedy. From the moment he preached his inaugural gospel message at the tender age of 11, this anointed man of God has touched and is touching hundreds of lives as a highly sought-after preacher, teacher, keynote speaker, lecturer and seminar leader in the religious and business communities.

Gospel Tabernacle Baptist Church, located in the heart of Baltimore’s inner city, acknowledges that God sent this young pastor to them nineteen years ago knowing the future and heightened level of ministry upon which they would embark together.

The vision to minister to the present and future generations of the church and community became a reality in 2006 through a three-million dollar expansion and renovation project. This new wing of the church houses a multi-level Family Life Center, incorporating the church’s administrative offices, bookstore, computer laboratory, nursery, health suite, multi-purpose hall and classrooms. Emphasis is not only placed on the studying and learning of God’s Word, but meeting the unmet needs of the community in which the church exists. These needs include training in basic life skills, such as résumé writing and job interviewing, plumbing, automotive mechanics, computer fundamentals and the like.

Bishop Kennedy’s road of ministry included educational stops at Baltimore’s Lake Clifton High School, Richmond’s Virginia Union University, where he received a B.A in Religion and Philosophy and at Baltimore’s University of Family Bible, where he received a Master of Divinity in Theology and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Advanced Clinical Pastoral Counseling.

His pastoral stops included duties as Assistant to the Pastor at Timothy Baptist Church and Assistant Pastor at Good Tidings Baptist Church in Baltimore, and Chaplain for the University of Maryland Police Department before assuming the full-time pastorate of Gospel Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Along the road of ministry Rev. Dr. Kennedy acquired memberships in the Baptist Ministers Conference of Baltimore and Vicinity, the International Conference of Police Chaplains, the Executive Board of the Lott Carey Baptist Foreign Convention and Phi Beta Sigma fraternity. Bishop Kennedy serves as the Vice President of the International Honorable Sacred College of Apostles and Bishops in Baltimore, Maryland.

The road of ministry included a stop for marriage in 1984 to the love of his life, the former Kelly Ryles. Their blessed union has resulted in the parenting of three fine young sons, Michael, Timothy and Daniel. He gives God praise for his family. Whether you call him Pastor, Preacher, or Teacher—Bishop Reginald L. Kennedy is a true minister—God’s man, in God’s place, doing God’s work, in God’s way, for God’s glory!
